Thank you for your interest in our position of Corporate Director – Development and Neighbourhood Services. It is without question a hugely challenging and rewarding post.

Stockton-on-Tees is a unique and exciting place to be. At the heart of the Tees Valley it is a fantastic place to live with many picturesque towns and villages. We are a borough with a great history and on our doorstep we have breathtaking countryside, easy access to the North York moors and over 30 miles of Heritage Coastline.

The Council is one of the highest performing authorities in the country and our resident satisfaction remains consistently high. We have a strong and committed workforce with high levels of staff satisfaction and contribute significantly to national, regional and sub-regional issues. 

This culture of ambition and drive has seen very real outcomes for our residents; our education results are impressive, we have recorded significant reductions in crime levels, now being the safest place in the Tees Valley and have transformed our urban environment to be one of the cleanest in the UK, a standard evidenced through our national and international success in Britain and Communities in Bloom. The borough is benefitting from large scale regeneration across our communities. The magnificent Infinity Bridge, visible from miles around links the Queens Campus of Durham University to our north shore development site and it is complemented by the new homes, commerce and retail opportunities throughout our borough. This success is built upon a foundation of excellent officer / Member relationships and a genuine culture of effective joint working with our communities and partners.

Despite our successes there remain challenges. The Council and its partners are committed to achieving our long standing aim; “promoting achievement: tackling disadvantage” and the Sustainable Community Strategy, LAA and MAA outline a demanding programme of activities. The current economic climate of course makes this agenda all the more challenging.
